Secretary Job Descriptions update Charlie Shaffer - Mr. Weinberg’s April 10 meeting with NEA reps to obtain a facilitator to evaluate secretaries’ job descriptions proved fruitless.  Charlie is still trying to approach a state agency to find a facilitator.  Barb Campbell offered a few suggestions Charlie agreed to follow up on.
April 23 Verbal Skills Workshop at RES   Mary Beth D'Amico - 24 support staff attended.  Message from Alfred Best: For that session only, paras may use the hours for both CHIP time and permit renewal clock hours.
Membership Walt Goering, Vice President and Membership Chair DSEA is adopting a new membership system called “IMS.”  It will provide more information, including quarterly “potential member” lists.  Membership cards are good for 2 years.  Walt presented new membership packets & ideas.
Custodial Liaison Committee Walt Building and Grounds Supervisor Tyrone Woodyard has postponed this meeting indefinitely.
RIF List Peggy Kirby (via phone after the meeting) Peggy found an employee on the list who is a temporary employee and, therefore, doesn’t belong.  Building Reps should have members check RIF list carefully to make sure appropriate names are included and dates are correct.  Confirmation of permanent or temporary status can be determined by checking board minutes.
Scholarships Mary Beth D'Amico The following members have submitted their children’s names for scholarships.  Building Reps, please be sure everyone eligible submits.  Late submitters may not receive checks in time for graduation, but those qualifying will still receive the scholarship. So far we have eight (8) submissions. I am in the process of verifying the information for eligibility.
➢    Any member who has a graduating senior must send a letter to the CHSSA treasurer containing the following information:
    Member's Name and Building
    Member's Address
    Child's Full Name
Child's Address (If it is the same as the member's, please indicate such.)
High School from which child is graduating
College for which child is bound
➢    The letter may be written on paper and forwarded to Mary Beth D'Amico via snail mail at 32164 Sandpiper Drive, Lewes, DE 19958 or c/o CHSSA, PO Box 202, Nassau, DE 19969. The letter may also be done as an e-mail to Mary Beth D'Amico at CHSSATreas@comcast.net
HCR Banquet Dee Lott  - Dee attended the dinner, but did not attend this meeting; no report.
    Member Concerns and Grievances update
2 Custodial issues are pending.  The level 3 grievance has been settled in favor of the member!
Title I Buildings and supervisory duty - Barb and the CHSSA will continue to monitor the staffing situation in light of the budget difficulties.  If the staffing pattern remains unchanged, we will meet with the Shields administration to assure equity in duty assignments.
For the good of the cause
➢    Brenda Coverdale handed out a copy of the Flexible Spending Account Claim Form for everyone to take and make copies for their schools.
➢    Woody was approached by Kelly Cannon having concerns about the para evaluation.  Kelly wondered if there could possibly be a situation where the teacher that they worked with could be the one doing the evaluation, maybe even twice a year, one being around January and then again at the end of the year.  Do we want this?  A suggestion from Charlie was maybe a pilot evaluation for the Consortium could be considered and tried for a year???
➢    Woody had questions and concerns about how to record his clock hours on DEEDS.
➢    If we are changing our dues DSEA needs that by June 1.
Next and last meeting for 07-08 is Wednesday, June 4, 2008.
