Custodial Liaison Committee Resurrected at 2/6/08 EC Meeting

Present were Ed Murauskas, president; Walt Goering, vice president and membership chair; Mary Beth D’Amico, treasurer; Peggy Kirby, negotiations chair; Virginia Griffith, RES; Dolores Rubolin, DO; Diane Parseghian, MMS; Brenda Coverdale, HOB; Donna Hartnett, RSE; Woody Stocks, NGC/SEC; Charlie Shaffer, DSEA.

�    Secretary Job Descriptions update � Secretaries should hold on to their completed job descriptions until the evaluations facilitator is secured.  Charlie expects to know more in a few days.  Job description re-evaluation should be completed by June, 2008.  In another secretary matter, building secretaries who use time outside their regular work day to secure substitutes in the absence of a district substitute caller should document that time and submit it to the payroll office for extra pay.
�    Membership � Walt Goering, Vice President and Membership Chair � Our membership numbers continue to rise.  New member Jean VanDerwall from Shields was introduced.
�    Winter Advocacy Retreat � Walt and Woody will attend.  Others may attend as commuters.  CHSSA will pay tuition.  Please let Mary Beth D'Amico <CHSSATreas@comcast.net> know if you’d like to go.
�    ESP Conference - ESP Conference � (from dsea.org) ESP Conference, March 15, Dover Downs. This will be a conference for school support staff only: secretaries, paras, aides, custodians, food service workers and transportation workers. There will be workshops and critical conversations for each ESP group. NEA Secretary/Treasurer Lily Eskelsen will keynote. Several gubernatorial candidates will also be on hand to talk to you about public education and your jobs. Look for more here as well as a personal invitation being mailed to every DSEA ESP member. Dolores, Walt and possibly Lorraine (BMS) will attend.  This is open to any CHSSA member.  Contact Mary Beth D'Amico <CHSSATreas@comcast.net> if it interests you.
�    DSEA Representative Assembly � Ed will attend; two members may accompany him.  Anyone interested should contact an officer. (from dsea.org) April 11-12, 2008, Dover Downs. Of special interest will be a Gubernatorial Debate with all four of the current candidates. It will be held Saturday, April 12 from 9-10:30am. More information soon.

�    For the good of the cause  -
➢    Ed passed out printed copies of the new contract to building representatives who had not yet received them.  Several issues regarding custodians’ work hours were referred to Walt since they are addressed in the new contract and he was the custodians’ rep. on the negotiations committee.
➢    The new contract resurrects the Custodial Liaison Committee.  Walt would like volunteers to form the committee.  Details about the committee can be found in Article VIII, paragraph 8:4 of the new contract.  Interested parties should contact Walt at BMS or via e-mail at WGoering001@comcast.net.
