Ed thanked everyone for their attendance and support.  Those able to attend were,

Ed, Lisa Thorp, Mary Beth D’Amico, Joan Williamson, Peggy Kirby, Roger Boyd,

Ella Betts, and Tim Eitner. 

Treasurers Report – Total Assets = $21,601.97 – Dinner this year which Ed congratulated everyone on cost us $1,461.59.

Ed Murauskas welcomed all to the beginning of another new school year.  This is a year of changes and we are hopeful they will be great ones.

UniServ Director:  Ed introduced our new Uni Serv Director, Joe Kirk.  Joe expressed that he is here to help our local and let everyone know they are welcome to contact him with any concerns they might have at any time.  He reminded us that this is a bargaining year and that we should start surveying and talking within our membership now about what issues we want to address in January.  Members can contact Joe @ joe.kirk@dsea.org or 1-866-734-5834.

Introductions:  Ed introduced all the Board Officers, and the new Building Representatives.  Woody Stocks is now the rep for Mariner Middle School, Molly is the representative for the Fred Thomas Building, and Donna Hartnett is once again the representative for Shields Elementary.  Thank you to all our building reps and officers for their efforts and time.  You are appreciated!

Ed welcomed everyone for their loyal attendance and support at our meetings.

Treasurers Report – Due to technical difficulties there is no treasurer’s report for this month.  In addition Mary Beth is unable to advise how many scholarships will be given out.  All information will be available at the June meeting.

Evaluations and Attendance – Ed advised that there is a discrepancy between buildings and principals on how to “grade” absences on our yearly evaluations.

Our contract states that both the District Office and CHSSA are to develop an agreed upon evaluation process and attendance should be part of that.  After further discussion it was decided that this will be part of our contract negotiations.

Mariner Middle School

The meeting began promptly at 4pm.  Ed welcomed everyone present and thanked them for their attendance. 

DSEA Rep – Ed welcomed and introduced Joe Kirk our new Uni serv representative.  Joe spent a few minutes talking about his 20 years with the Pennsylvania Department Education Association and is excited to now be in Delaware.  Welcome Joe!

Treasurers Report – Mary Beth D’Amico was unable to attend but did forward her report.  At present there is  $21,626.81 total assets.

Nomination Report – Susan Krause and Kathy Law were unable to attend but sent a report stating that all building reps were sent ballots with candidate and room for write in for each office.   Ballots are to be mailed back to Susan at Beacon Middle School by April 15^th.

Grievance Procedures – Ed advised that all building reps who are filing a grievance, at Level 1 thru 3, must reference Contract paragraph #, or School Board Policy page number that is in dispute. Also prior to filing any grievance form please submit it to Ed and / or Joe Kirk.

Building Reps also asked if it would be possible to have a refresher course given by DSEA on Building rep responsibilities and procedures in handling grievances.  Ed will check with the District Office to see if we can use any of the in-service day on May 18^th and will advise.

Membership Early Enrollment – Lisa Ingram advised that DSEA is offering early enrollment again this year.  Enrollment is open to anyone who has never been a member before.  If they have been a past member then they are not eligible under the early enrollment period.  A memo explaining all has been sent from the DSEA and will be mailed to each building representative so that they can offer it to their non member support staff.

For the Good of the Cause – Lisa Thorp asked for a correction to the March Minutes.  All agreed the paragraph titled High School Concerns, third sentence will be corrected to read “Molly explained that it is written in the Consortium handbook that Instructional Para Educators are not to be put into the community with students without Job Coaches.”  Joan will make the correction to the posted minutes on the web site.

Next Meeting will be at Grotto’s Grand Slam at 4pm on May 4^th.  Minutes respectfully submitted by Joan Williamson.

The meeting was in progress when the secretary arrived.

DSEA Uniserv Representative – Charlie Shaffer has taken a new position with the Pennsylvania State Education Association.  In the interim our Uniserv Representative will be Wendy Kupcha. Her contact email is Wendy.Kupcha@dsea.org.

Treasurers Report – Bank balance $4399, General fund $7554, CD-CAL fund $6,155, Scholarship fund $2,895.  Total assets $21,004.
