CHSSA GENERAL
MEMBERSHIP MEETING
MINUTES
AUGUST 31, 2011
CAPE HENLOPEN
HIGH SCHOOL
Ed
Murauskas welcomed all to the beginning of another new school year. This is a year of changes and we are hopeful
they will be great ones.
UniServ Director: Ed introduced our new Uni Serv Director, Joe
Kirk. Joe expressed that he is here to
help our local and let everyone know they are welcome to contact him with any
concerns they might have at any time. He
reminded us that this is a bargaining year and that we should start surveying
and talking within our membership now about what issues we want to address in
January. Members can contact Joe @ joe.kirk@dsea.org or 1-866-734-5834.
Introductions: Ed introduced all the Board Officers, and the
new Building Representatives. Woody
Stocks is now the rep for Mariner Middle School, Molly is the representative
for the Fred Thomas Building, and Donna Hartnett is once again the
representative for Shields Elementary.
Thank you to all our building reps and officers for their efforts and
time. You are appreciated!
Treasurers
Report: Mary Beth D’Amico reported that we have a
very strong budget and will not have to increase dues.
Mary
Beth explained that a couple of other districts were audited and were in
jeopardy of losing their tax exempt status and it is because of that we are presently working
on a financial policy. When this
is adopted by our Board and approved by DSEA, all building representatives will
be given a copy.
Scholarship applications
have changed from previous years. Every
graduating senior who is a dependent of a CHSSA member and plans to go on to
post High School Education is eligible for a $200.00 scholarship towards that
education.
All
applicants will now have to present with their application proof of graduation
and written proof of enrollment in the higher institution.
New Contract: Ed explained that collective bargaining will
take place this year and agreed with Joe that a committee needs to form now and
begin dialog to prepare for this. Anyone
wishing to join should contact Ed or Peggy Kirby, Negotiations Chair @ emurauskas@cape.k12.de.us or
pkirby@cape.k12.de.us

also urged everyone to review their contract – read it – it is yours. There are hard copies in each
library and with your building reps as well as a copy on the web site.
Again
if you have concerns / troubles within your building, please talk to your
building representative first.

respectfully submitted by Joan Williamson.
