January 2014 Newsletter

I hope everyone had a wonderful time during the Winter Break. Spending time with our families is always great. AS we begin this New Year I am looking forward in our continuing effort to strengthen the Support Staff. My goal is to reach out to the members and be there for them.

Thank you

Jan 6, 2014 CHSSA Exec Meeting Minutes @ Grotto's

Tim welcomed and thanked those in attendance and for their continued support.
Those in attendance were; Tim, Lisa Thorp, Susan Krause, Kathy Law, Jeannie Morris, and Joe Kirk (DSEA). Also in attendance, and it was a privilege to have Connie Hickman (Bus Driver) and Edmund Brouillette (Bus Monitor and also NEW MEMBER) with us.

President Prespective – Tim informed the committee of a meeting that Joe Kirk and he attended along with Mr. Bob Fulton and Cathy Petitgout at the District Office. The discussions of this meeting was ‘early dismissals’, ‘school delays’ and ‘overtime policy during winter break’. Tim said the meeting was very productive and these issues were addressed and answered satisfactory.

Tim also informed us about the discussions that he had with Mr. Fulton and Mr. Spencer Brittingham (School Board President). In each of these discussions Tim reached out to them on forming committees to meet with the Superintendent and School Board. Both Mr. Fulton and Mr. Brittingham agreed that communication is the best for both parties. Tim will be asking the committee next month for their input and scheduling.

Treasurers Report – Sharon was under the weather, therefore no report.

Joe Kirk – Joe had to leave early. Joe did remind us of an upcoming Building Rep training in March. He encouraged the Building Reps to attend.

For the good of the cause
The committee had a very educational chat with Connie and Ed. Tim said that he did not know everything that pertains to the bus drivers/monitors daily activities. One of things that disturbed Tim, are the drivers getting paid for pre and post inspection checks. Tim asks Connie and Ed if they could talk to other drivers/monitors and document the actual time that they are involved with their bus in preparing the safety checks for the students. Tim was not aware of the changes in schedules when other schools within Sussex County have different starting times due to morning delays. Due to the many issues, Tim is looking into a morning breakfast meeting with the drivers/monitor. Discussion was made on a possible meeting on Jan 28, Tuesday, at Bob Evans at 9am. Tim will contact Bob Evans and see if this would be ok. Once final approval has been met, Tim will contact fellow support staff drivers/monitors, via email, phone and will place a flyer in their school mailboxes.

Still looking for an energetic person to fulfill the position of Secretary.

Discussion was also made on holding a staff support meeting for ‘all’ staff support personnel. This would be a meeting on the benefits of being a staff support association member.
